We started by learning about what science and medical (sci-med) illustration is, and the body system we would soon dissect!
Heart illustration provided by Emily Hromi, Studio Hromi LLC.

Do's and dont's, how to go about dissecting a sheep heart.
We also looked at a pre-dissected frog to see the heart in relation to the rest of the body.

Then it was time for students to dissect!!!

Some students had in-depth questions, so we walked through how to find the information in an anatomy textbook.

The plan was for everyone to draw something from their dissection, but everyone was exhausted, and attention was spent by the end!

The Dissect and Draw lab/workshop was created for Heather Hill's class, hosted at Cleveland State University's CMSD STEM Summer Program (we turned it into STEAM :) )
This workshop was made possible by funding from Evergreen Learning Labs, Cleveland State University and the Cleveland Institute of Art's Continuing Education and Community Outreach program and Life Sciences Illustration/Biomedical Art program.
